Ideas for the documentary: I wanted the documentary billboards to portray that it  is about the effects on the target audience. I want to  make it about how it links to them personally as well as overall, provoking empathy for those  with other experiences but also creating something which suggests it will be relatable. As it’s targeted at 16-25 year olds, I wanted to use lockdown as the basis for my billboard as I felt this sort of documentary could  be used for future people of this age demographic to learn about the reality of Covid for different people, as well as being used to allow the effects on the current target audience to be depicted in a relatable and appealing way.  I therefore considered the effect on this age group in terms of education, mental health and social interaction. I wanted to depict specifically the effects of Covid lockdown on reliance on technology,  the planet’s  environmental improvement during Covid, loneliness...

Documentary information

Data and statistics regarding audiences: Documentaries as a whole form statistics such as: a 44% increase in popularity from the beginning of 2021- the end of 2023 It shows how they are one of the most rapidly growing genres. Especially over the lockdown period, the demand for documentaries were exacebated and this is an influence of my topic of documentary when it came to planning. In correlation with this, the number of documentaries produced has increased to 63%, which outweighs the demand suggesting saturation may ensue from the   genre. As there was a considerable increase in interest during lockdown, this was influential in my chosen theme for my documentary billboards.     Popularity of documentaries: Documentaries as a whole appeal   to a wide variety of people, as there is a large spectrum of different genres. A leading genre is true crime such as 'The case of Madeline McCann'. This is likely due to morbid curiosity and the social medi...

Poster analysis part three

Image
This poster, in having the BBC logo above the title, certifies it as reliable - as it’s known as impartial - and  people may associate it with other, well-rounded, documentaries by the BBC. The size of the elephants  in the poster on the picture of the globe  represents how much of the planet is made of wildlife and links with iconography of our planet with  animals. The font is a neutral colour, correlating well with the BBC logo, creating a further association with it being done in a thoughtful way by the two appearing to go hand in hand. A primary target audience would likely be someone who is a fan of other nature documentaries or programmes by the BBC or in general. The secondary audience may be family, who may be watching it with them and therefore we can see how this poster gives clear indication of what the documentary targets, and would appeal to the side of viewers which likes wildlife, or wants to learn more about the world.

Poster analysis Part two

Image
This poster isn’t too overbearing in terms of imaging, which draws attention to the title and the dynamic which it creates. The genre is immediately apparent from the weather depicted in it as well as the font. It has one main cover image which again focuses attention upon It and adds to the image of being ‘alone in the hard time.’ The image angle of being behind the character in the image further presents the idea of loneliness, isolation and of the style of the documentary in us ‘witnessing’ darkness from afar. The font appearing morbid and somewhat harshly jagged, has the effect of not only setting the tone for the film but also conveying how the person featuring feels, adding to this presentation of the darkness felt. A target audience would likely involve those interested in autobiographies or themes which would likely spark emotion or darker circumstances. Those who might be primary target audiences would consist primarily of those curious of other’s experiences. A second...

Poster analysis part one

Image
A specific poster analysis which sparked elements of inspiration for some of my poster ideas: In regard to this crime documentary poster, it makes for an effective visual in portraying the dynamic and genre of the documentary. It also creates a memorable and intriguing look which would draw attention towards it and subsequently attract viewers. As the poster is evident in its topic with its title bold, large and blunt, it presents connotations of being a newspaper article. Along with this grey and slightly faded side of the poster, this further adds that feel and would interest a viewer to be drawn to watch the film in the way that you might pick up a newspaper. Also being relatively simplistic in font, it conveys the seriousness, not distracting from the point. The contrast of the two halves of the face as the main image, taken as an extreme closeup, is that it is somewhat intimidating, whilst remaining only a single image so that   people aren’t deterred from it; it’...
